The Brand
“Mangarataya” means ginger in Nheengatu, an ancestral language derived from Tupi and spoken for centuries across the Amazon region. The name carries respect for our roots and for the cultural strength of Amapá and the Brazilian Amazon.

Mangarataya: Ginger in Nheengatu
“Mangarataya” means ginger in Nheengatu — an ancestral Amazonian language derived from Tupi, once spoken throughout the region. It contributed to Portuguese words such as maniçoba, macaxeira, cuia, cumbuca, and cupuaçu.
In 2019, through Law nº 0128/2019, the Legislative Assembly of Amapá recognized Gengibirra as Intangible Cultural Heritage of the state, reinforcing its importance to our identity.
